Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information trans-gov.net (the "Platform"), operated by May Adelaide ("the operator"), collects, why, and how it is handled. It should be read together with the Terms of Service.
1. Information collected from contributors
When you request an account or contribute, the operator collects:
- your chosen username;
- your email address, used to confirm your request, to contact you, and to send account notices;
- your verification photograph (the photo holding a dated note with your username), used to confirm that a real person is behind the account and if any altercation occurs while they’re actively on the website where they haven’t requested to have their information rescinded; and
- the content and source links you submit, which the operator reviews and, where a source is cited, preserves an archived copy of.
The operator may also receive standard technical data that any website receives, such as your IP address and browser information, through the server and its logs.
2. What is public and what is not
- Public: entries, source links, and preserved copies that the operator has reviewed and approved are, by design, viewable by anyone.
- Not public: your email address and your verification photograph are never published. They are visible only to the operator for account review and misuse handling.
3. Why this information is collected
Information is collected only to operate and moderate the Platform: to verify accounts, to review submissions before they are published, to communicate with contributors, to prevent and address abuse, and to support referral of public-interest information to law enforcement.
4. How long it is kept
Account information, including your email address and verification photograph, is kept while your account is active and for as long as needed to address misuse or to comply with the law. Approved public entries, and the archived copies the operator preserves of their sources, will remain published indefinitely as part of the record, subject to the corrections process below.
5. Disclosure
The operator does not sell personal information and does not share it with advertisers. The operator may disclose information:
- to the police or other authorities, where the Platform is referring public-interest information, where required by law, or where the operator believes in good faith it is necessary to comply with the law or protect a person's safety; and
- as necessary to operate the Platform's hosting and email (for example, the web host that stores the site).
6. Data location
The Platform is currently hosted on servers located in the United States. Information handled by the Platform is therefore stored and processed in the United States and may be subject to United States law, including lawful requests to the hosting provider, in addition to the laws of Ontario and Canada that govern the operator. The operator intends to relocate hosting to Switzerland; this section will be updated when that occurs. By contributing, you understand that information you submit is stored on servers outside Canada.
7. Your choices and requests
- Contributors: you may ask to close your account and to have your verification photograph deleted. Closing your account removes your login and your verification photograph; entries you already submitted that have been reviewed and approved remain part of the public record.
- People named in an entry: you may request correction or removal of information about you through the process in section 8 of the Terms of Service.
Send any request to palindromayd@trans-gov.net.
8. Children
The Platform is not directed at children. A person under 18 may contribute only with a parent or legal guardian's involvement, and entries will only document adults. See sections 3 and 6 of the Terms of Service.
